The lawyer representing Hillary Clinton’s recount efforts recently led legal battles against state voting laws with an infusion of funding from billionaire George Soros.

On Saturday, Marc Elias, the Clinton team’s general counsel, announced Clinton’s campaign would participate in Green Party candidate Jill Stein’s recount effort in Wisconsin. Elias also said the Clinton campaign would participate if Stein decides to pursue recounts in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

Historians seek reparations for Californians forcibly sterilized

Hundreds of Californians who were forcibly sterilized based on eugenics laws in the last century might still be alive and deserve an apology and financial reparations, a new study concludes.

In a Sacramento government office, historian and lead author Alexandra Minna Stern stumbled across a filing cabinet containing about 20,000 recommendations for eugenics-motivated sterilizations dating from 1919 through 1952.

Downing Street has ordered an investigation into how a memo sent to senior civil servants to warn about the consequences of leaking information was passed on to journalists within days.

Theresa May’s official spokeswoman said that action was under way to find out who had sent the letter, written by the cabinet secretary, Sir Jeremy Heywood, warning officials that they faced the sack if they leaked information, to a Sunday newspaper.

Mark Carney has come out and said the very thing that every economist studying the subject agrees with. It isn’t true that everyone benefits from free trade and globalisation. The net effect on all humans is vastly positive, but there are still those that lose. And that’s a political problem, not an economic one. For the people who don’t win are, largely speaking, those below median incomes in the already rich countries. It is this which drives the chatter about increasing inequality when in fact inequality, measured globally, is falling.

Venezuela to Issue Bigger Bills This Month as Currency Plunges

With the value of Venezuela’s largest banknotes reduced to a few U.S. cents by triple-digit inflation and the currency’s collapse on the black market, the country’s central bank said it will begin circulating higher-denomination notes this month.

New denominations including bills of 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 20,000 bolivars will start appearing at banks from Dec. 15, according to a Central Bank statement, adding that coins of 10, 50, and 100 bolivars would also be released. Bloomberg News first reported the plans for larger bills on November 30.
