The European Parliament has voted to suspend Turkey’s EU membership talks because of the Turkish government’s crackdown since a coup attempt in July.
The MEPs’ non-binding vote has already been dismissed as “worthless” by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The British government said Wednesday it would extend voter registration for the EU membership referendum after a last-minute surge in demand crashed the applications website — but “Brexit” supporters cried foul.
The midnight Tuesday deadline for registrating to vote will be extended by 48 hours, the government announced.
Brussels is temporarily pulling the plug on plans to ban high-powered kettles and toasters in order to avoid giving anti-EU campaigners fresh ammunition in the Britain’s “Brexit” referendum, it was reported today.
The decision to shelve the plans until after the EU referendum comes as Brussels tries to minimise its reputation for meddling in all aspects of voters’ ordinary lives ahead of the June 23 vote that will decide Britain’s EU membership.
