Stocks of some programmers that could attract interest rose sharply on Friday as the deal of the year came together. Discovery Communications Inc DISCA.O gained 3.6 percent, AMC Networks Inc AMCX.O rose 3.9 percent and Scripps Networks Interactive Inc SNI.O jumped 5.6 percent.

The European Union will subject internet services like WhatsApp and Skype to similar rules that traditional telecommunications firms face, according to major reform proposals unveiled Wednesday.
In a major victory for traditional phone companies, the European Commission, the executive arm of the 28-nation bloc, recommended tighter privacy and security for services like Facebook-owned message service WhatsApp and Microsoft’s video phone portal Skype.

A new smart stick on tattoo will be able to monitor exactly how much a person is drinking.
The flexible patch can detect a person’s blood-alcohol level from their sweat.
It can even message doctors and even police if the wearer drinks too much.
The monitor, reported in the journal ACS Sensors, works quickly and can send results wirelessly to a smartphone or other device.
Recent research has demonstrated that sweat can be a more reliable real-time indicator of blood alcohol content.
At least two transdermal sensors have been developed to measure alcohol levels in sweat, but users have to wait up to 2 hours for results.
Joseph Wang, Patrick Mercier and colleagues at the University of California, San Diego, set out to make a more practical version.
With temporary-tattoo paper, the researchers developed a patch that tests blood alcohol content non-invasively in three rapid steps.

When Wells Fargo opened its first high-tech branch three years ago in the District’s NoMa neighborhood, it did away with desks and replaced traditional counters with large touch-screen ATMs.
Also gone from its new location: tellers.
Instead, the 1,000-square-foot branch has a handful of tablet-toting employees to help customers navigate technology to deposit checks, apply for loans or open savings accounts.
