Neither of the two drugs used most frequently to prevent migraines in children is more effective than a sugar pill, according to a study published on Thursday in The New England Journal of Medicine.

Researchers stopped the large trial early, saying the evidence was clear even though the drugs — the antidepressant amitriptyline and the epilepsy drug topiramate — had been shown to prevent migraines in adults.

A New Hampshire business owner is sounding the alarm after he found a flier near the University of New Hampshire campus in Durham connecting young, vulnerable students with “sugar daddies.”

The piece of paper was pinned to a bulletin board outside the Town and Campus store. The owner ripped it down right away, but the “sugar daddy” ad is popping up elsewhere, so police are asking people who see the fliers to take them down.

Researchers who have analyzed America’s eating habits say they can sum up what’s wrong with our diet in just two words: ultra-processed foods.

These foods — a group that includes frozen pizzas, breakfast cereals and soda — make up 58% of all calories Americans consume in a typical day. Not only that, they delivered 90% of the added sugars that Americans ate and drank, according to a study published Wednesday in the medical journal BMJ Open.

The book, “A Birthday Cake for George Washington,” tells the story of the first president’s enslaved chef, Hercules, and his daughter Delia, who work through the dilemma of finding sugar to bake a birthday cake.
