Downing Street has ordered an investigation into how a memo sent to senior civil servants to warn about the consequences of leaking information was passed on to journalists within days.

Theresa May’s official spokeswoman said that action was under way to find out who had sent the letter, written by the cabinet secretary, Sir Jeremy Heywood, warning officials that they faced the sack if they leaked information, to a Sunday newspaper.

A federal safety agency is urging cell phone and electronic device makers to design products to minimize the potential for driver distraction.

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson on Wednesday reported that there’s been a spike in the number of people apprehended along the southern border, adding to the complexity of the immigration situation that President-elect Donald Trump will inherit.

Johnson said there currently are about 41,000 individuals in our immigration detention facilities, a big jump from the typical 31,000 to 34,000 figure.
