Tens of thousands of Brazilians have joined street protests against a vote which they say threatens to undermine a major anti-corruption investigation.
The biggest marches have taken place in Sao Paulo’s business district and along Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana beach.

Rio de Janeiro’s hospitals are running out of syringes and basic medications, and their staffs are running on little-to-no pay, with one month to go before the city hosts the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Portugal’s RTP visited Rio de Janeiro and found nurses and doctors protesting for their salaries and demanding the government properly stock their workplaces. “The public health system is in collapse,” RTP asserted, noting that the average nurse lives off of little more than $220 a month in the city and has not even received that this month.

In the flurry of blue and white that lit up Rio de Janeiro’s vast Sambadrome last week, black bands could be spotted on some of the wrists of those who marched to the driving beats.
It was an uncharacteristically sombre touch for the prestigious Beija-Flor samba school, 12 times winners of the city’s carnival parade, whose symbol is a gigantic hummingbird. The black bands worn at a rehearsal for the carnival, which begins on Friday, were a tribute to a dancer who had been killed the week before.
