A damning new report on the Obama administration’s immigration policies and actions shows that about half of illegal immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border are actually caught, and demands for asylum have exploded 900 percent.

The report done for the Department of Homeland Security said that asylum demands since President Obama came into office and loosened immigration requirements surged from 17,000 to 170,000.

Border Patrol union welcomes Trump’s wall as ‘vital tool’

The union’s president, Brandon Judd, has been advising the Trump transition team. The union has encouraged the building of a border wall and changing enforcement policies put in place in the past four years.

San Diego-based Shawn Moran, vice president of the union, said a wall on the border would be a “vital tool,” and it’s difficult to say exactly where along the border a wall is needed.

With Donald Trump’s presidency now only a matter of time instead of a hypothetical, border agents are bracing for a surge in illegal immigration at the southwest border as people race to get into the United States before the door shuts.

At the same time, according to the head of the union representing 16,5000 U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents, career-level managers of the agency are likely to push back against the directives of outgoing political appointees of President Obama.

When you first encounter the word “populism,” you might think it’s a close cousin of democracy, with all the positive connotations that go along with it. And for some, it may well seem a purer form of a process by which politicians harness the will of the majority.

But that’s only part of the picture. Populism—ostensibly a belief in the rights, wisdom, or virtues of the common people—often requires a bogeyman, be it an existing government, the supposed cultural elite, the media, or a particular ethnic, racial, or religious group.
