Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme ahead of Tuesday’s Home Affairs Select Committee inquiry into Sharia Councils, Naz Shah said the “under-resourced” organisations were vital in settling disputes within the Muslim Community.

Police are investigating the death of a British woman in Pakistan after her husband claimed she was the victim of an “honour” killing for marrying a man from outside the family allegedly against her parents’ wishes.

Samia Shahid, a beauty therapist from Bradford, died on Wednesday while visiting relatives in Pandori village near Mangla Dam in northern Punjab, the Foreign Office confirmed.

A man accused of murdering a Muslim shopkeeper has issued a statement saying Asad Shah had “disrespected” the Prophet Muhammad.

Tanveer Ahmed, from Bradford, West Yorkshire, appeared in court for the second time accused of murdering the 40-year-old outside his shop in Glasgow’s Shawlands area last month.
