A Houston news anchor has been fired for a controversial Facebook post praising Donald Trump’s election and blaming President Obama for racism.

KRIV presenter Scarlett Fakhar said on Thursday she was fired for expressing “conservative views” on her private Facebook page the day after Trump’s win.

New Yorker television critic Emily Nussbaum, a newly minted Pulitzer Prize winner, spent the Republican National Convention pen-pricking presidential nominee Donald Trump as a misogynist shyster running an “ugly and xenophobic campaign.”

Fears of a fresh debt crisis in developing countries that would send shockwaves through the global financial system have been highlighted by a United Nations report stressing the vulnerability of poor states to falling commodity prices and higher interest rates.

The annual report from the UN conference on trade and development (Unctad) said the benefits of the debt relief provided to some of the world’s poorest countries as a result of the mass public campaigns of the late-90s and early 2000s were “fast evaporating”.

Nelson Mandela said that the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi had helped to topple apartheid in South Africa. Emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie I, was also an admirer. “Mahatma Gandhi will always be remembered as long as free men and those who love freedom and justice live,” he said. Yet not all African leaders are inspired by the man known as the “Father of India”.

An online petition, which has been signed by more than 1,000 people, has been started by professors at the University of Ghana. They call for the removal of a statue of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi from the campus grounds in Accra. The academics say that Gandhi, who has been praised by public figures for leading India’s non-violent movement to freedom from British colonial rule during the mid 20th century, had a “racist identity”.
