A senior leader of the Muslim Brotherhood organisation has been killed by Egyptian Interior Ministry forces, the ministry says.

In a statement, it said Mohamed Kamal died in a gun battle along with another member of the group on Monday.

The number of bodies recovered after a migrant boat capsized off the Egyptian coast on Wednesday has reached at least 162, as the search continues.

The boat was carrying between 450 and 600 migrants when it sank eight miles (12km) off the port city of Rosetta.
It was transporting Egyptian, Syrian, Sudanese, Eritrean and Somali migrants.

Egypt put on trial 237 activists arrested for protesting against President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, judicial sources said on Saturday, the first court cases after demonstrations this month.

Thousands angered by Sisi’s decision to hand over two islands to Saudi Arabia called on April 15 for his government to fall in the largest demonstration since the former army general took office in 2014. Security forces dispersed a second protest.
