Four police officers have died after their helicopter crashed over Rio de Janeiro’s notorious City of God favela.
In video footage of the crash, sustained gunfire can be heard before the helicopter drops from the sky, narrowly missing a main road.

The helicopter was giving support to a police operation against gangs in the favela, according to police.
Police reportedly began a large scale operation on Sunday in western Rio, with arrests and seizures of drugs.

Two nephews of Venezuela’s first lady were found guilty on Friday on US charges that they tried to carry out a multimillion-dollar drug deal to obtain a large amount of cash to help their family stay in power.

Franqui Francisco Flores de Freitas and Efraín Antonio Campo Flores, nephews of Cilia Flores, the wife of the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, were convicted by a federal jury in Manhattan of conspiring to import cocaine into the United States.

Police in southern Vietnam are searching for more than 200 drug addicts who broke out of a compulsory rehabilitation centre.

More than 500 inmates broke out of the centre in Dong Nai province on Sunday, some using fire extinguishers and sticks to smash walls and windows.

A Central Intelligence Agency anti-drug program in Venezuela shipped a ton of nearly pure cocaine to the United States in 1990, Government officials said today.

No criminal charges have been brought in the matter, which the officials said appeared to have been a serious accident rather than an intentional conspiracy. But officials say the cocaine wound up being sold on the streets in the United States.
